The route

A pool route is a book of pools.

A route is the pools you service on a repeating schedule, usually every week. You show up on the day you said. You do the visit. You come back next week and the pool remembers you, because the note from last time is in the book.

You own the relationship. The customer is paying for that visit, and for the person who knows the gate, the dog, and what the filter did last month. There is no storefront in this. The truck and the book are the company.

People talk about a route as if it were a thing you buy off a shelf. Sometimes an owner does sell a book of stops. What you are buying, if you ever do, is the habit those customers have of paying for a visit on a set day, and your ability to keep that habit. A list of addresses without that habit is a stack of paper.

A route is worth having when the stops sit on a loop and the visit is the same at each one. That is what lets a second person run the day the way you would. It is also what makes the book worth something later, to you or to someone else. A route only you can run, because it lives in your head, is a job with your name on the truck.

Nothing here is a territory, a starter kit, or a promise about what the book will pay. The price of each pool is a decision you make after you know what the week costs and what your town already pays. The work of getting the first names onto the page is still yours.

Learn the visit. Then learn the business around it. Then open.
